The spot painted by Whistler is located at the east end of Trestraou Beach at Perros-Guirec in the north of Brittany, France. The various elements are correctly rendered but the composition of the picture has been adjusted to the painter's taste, the rock at the left of the forefront in particular has been moved towards the right. The reefs and islands in the background have just been omitted. As to the chaos of rocks and stones on the right of the forefront, it is today more important as compared with Whistler's painting, but that may simply be the result of the progressive disappearance of the sand over time.
