Voici certainement le portrait le plus mystérieux qu’ait peint Modigliani. Nous ignorons tout du modèle, mais nous savons qu’il avait d’abord peint un nu sur la toile, et qu’il le recouvrit plus tard par cette curieuse Antonia. De ce fait, cette œuvre fut des plus complexes et difficiles à reproduire. L’original fut étudié à plusieurs occasions et dans différentes conditions d’éclairage, ce qui permit d’analyser les diverses zones épaisses et opaques, ainsi que celles plus minces et transparentes. Il était capital de recréer le relief important de certaines parties des premières couches afin que cette reproduction paraisse aussi authentique que possible. Jonte Tychman |

is the most mysterious portrait ever painted by Modigliani, we know little
or nothing about the model. We do know that Modigliani had first painted
a nude on the same canvas and then later painted over it this curious "Antonia".
Having painted over another work makes "Antonia" his most The original was studied on several occasions and in different lighting conditions to analyse the many thick opaque areas and also the thinner transparent ones as well. The bold relief of sections of the under painting, too, was of great importance for being able to reconstruct this Modigliani as authentically as possible. Jonte Tychman |
